Topics include: What is a sailboat; how a boat sails; sailboat maneuvering; legal requirements; aids to navigation; rigging; handling; tuning and heavy weather; navigation rules; marlinspike seamanship; sailboat engines; trailering; weather; radiotelephone; inland waterways, locks, and dams; and piloting.

Many insurance companies will offer discounts on boat insurance to individuals who successfully complete this course and can present their course-completion certificates.
