New AUXCOM Course! The national training department has announced that a completely revised Communications Specialty course (AUXCOM) is now available, obsoleting the 1997 version. In our district, AUXCOM classes beginning after September 1, 2010 will use the new material; classes beginning before then will use the old. In addition, students currently taking the "old" course and wishing to take the matching exam, must do so by September 1st. After that, only the new exam will be available.
The new course is purely an operational specialty course for members working to attain AUXOP status. Those desiring to acquire an Auxiliary call sign – at one time assigned upon successful completion of AUXCOM – must still complete the separate Telecommunications PQS (Personal Qualification Standard).
Instructors wishing to obtain the new course materials may order them physically from the Auxiliary National Supply Center (ANSC), according to a June 21 announcement by T-Department. Downloadable student study guide, instructor guide, and the course PowerPoint presentation are also available at the T-Department's AUXCOM page.
The Training department expects this course to be popular so it recommends that you begin organizing classes and getting your course materials order in soon.

AP Member Privileges. There has long been confusion about the privileges and allowed level of participation in Auxiliary activities by new members in AP (Approval Pending) status. Actually, they have nearly the same rights and privileges as IQ (Initially Qualified) members and above, as this hard-to-find policy from the Chief Director's Office demonstrates. Posted under District Policies.
