The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary,
the civilian component of Team Coast Guard, was established by Congress in 1939 as the Coast Guard Reserve and redesignated the Auxiliary in 1941.
The 30,000 volunteer members of the Auxiliary devote hundreds of thousands of hours each year in support of Coast Guard missions. The men and women of
today's Auxiliary conduct boating classes for the public, perform vessel safety checks and visits to marine dealers, provide administrative and some
inspection assistance to Coast Guard Marine Safety offices and other Coast Guard units, and perform safety patrols and search and rescue missions on
the nation's coastal and inland waters and in the air. Membership in the Coast Guard Auxiliary is open to U.S. citizens age 17 or older.
Every
Auxiliarist belongs to a local Flotilla and you can find out where there is
a flotilla near you by clicking on "Join the Auxiliary" on the left and
entering your ZIP code in the form available from that site.
A
schedule of Public Education classes available at various locations within
District Eleven Southern Region is available in Adobe format from the "Take
a Boating Course" link.
And
you can find out how to get a free check of your vessel's required and
recommended safety equipment by going to the link for "Get a Vessel Safety
